Ahniwa Ferrari Great storytelling. Incredibly touching, and with just the right amount of fancy guitarwork behind it. I'm a fan.

about

A Thanksgiving song for my grandmother who passed away in June 2022.

lyrics

KITCHEN WALL

Kitchen standing empty - while the turkey thaws
Thanksgiving’s coming, I can’t help but find you in my thoughts
The family dividing, how did you ever make it work?
I feel my world shifting - sometimes better…sometimes worse

I remember as a child spending holidays - at your home
Hallways full of hanging spoons, cuckoo clocks, plates and furry gnomes
Grandpa in the den watching golf on tv
The only kind of holiday - I ever wanted, to know

But now your spoon collection’s hangin’ on my kitchen wall
It keeps bringing you to mind
Funny how a thing can bring back memories every time
All the places where your presence - keeps on crashing through my life

The pumpkin pie is ready but this year its store bought
Mama’s makin’ stuffing – some things haven’t changed at all
Who’ll put whip cream in the fruit salad? Or marshmallows on the yams?
Velveeta on the broccoli, black olives from the can
Ohh, there’s so much missing sitting at Thanksgiving time again..

I glance up at the clock – but it’s not time to go
It still feels odd we won’t be in your home
But the cuckoo clock is wound and they’re all coming here, this year
And your spoon collection’s hangin’ on my kitchen wall
It keeps bringing you to mind
Funny how a thing can bring back memories every time

Now that you’re gone, My heart’s become more grateful
For the things, I recall, Gonna open up my eyes and let these feelings fall
But now your spoon collection’s hangin’ on my kitchen wall
It keeps bringing you to mind
Funny how a thing can bring back memories every time
There’s so much missing when we’re sitting at Thanksgiving time again.
Ohhh… There’s so much missing when we’re sitting at Thanksgiving time again.
